These delectable marshmallow treats have the delectable combo of peanut butter, pretzels and chocolate - and will perfectly hit your sweet and savory cravings. Plus, the addition of whole mini marshmallows are the secret to amazingly gooey home-style Rice Krispies treats.
Tips & Tricks for the BEST Turnout
Line your dish: Rice Krispies can be really tough to get out of the pan if you don't prep it properly. I always line my dish with parchment paper, making sure to leave enough that it hangs over on both sides. This makes it very convenient to pop out and slice once they've cooled!
Work quickly: Once your butter, peanut butter and marshmallow mixture has fully melted - quickly add it to your cereal. The marshmallow mixture will start to firm up relatively quickly, so the longer you wait the harder it will be for you to evenly coat the cereal.
Pressing your treats down: This dessert can get very sticky, I recommend when pressing it into your pan, either coat your spatula with a bit of oil or use a sheet of parchment paper on top and press down firmly.
Variations for This Recipe
One of the best parts about this recipe is that it's so easy to customize! Below are just a few ideas if you're looking for a variation.
Swap the peanut butter: Don't like peanut butter or have an allergy? The PB can be swapped for any nut butter of your choice. One of my favorites to swap this out for is cashew butter, but any type will work.
Additional add-ins: Extra toppings can be added into this recipe, such as M&Ms, mini chocolate chips or caramel bits! My recommendation would be adding ~1 c of your topping into the cereal base mixture, but feel free to add more depending on your preference. If you add a significant amount of other toppings, I would decrease the amount of cereal you use slightly so there is enough marshmallow/nut butter mixture to coat your treats.
Different cereals: Rice Krispies are the most common cereal to use for this type of bar, but you can get as creative as you like. Just swap in a one to one ratio of cereal. I think Cocoa Pebbles would make a perfect replacement if you want to boost the chocolate flavor.
Drizzles & toppings: I chose to drizzle chocolate on top of my treats to make them even more irresistible, but you could drizzle caramel, butterscotch or more peanut butter on top for a fun variation to this recipe. You can also sprinkle additional crushed pretzels or whole marshmallows over the drizzle to take these over the top!
Coconut oil: Personally, I love the flavor the coconut oil adds to the chocolate drizzle, but I know it might not be for everyone. Also, if you don't have any on hand it can easily be swapped for vegetable shortening or omitted completely.
