Bakery Style Chocolate Chip Muffins

Fair warning, these muffins are HUGE and packed with chocolate chips! So much so, they could *arguably* be considered dessert. But if you're looking for a Sunday morning treat (or any day of the week for that matter) these are well worth the effort - and who doesn't love an excuse to eat dessert for breakfast?!

Tips for the best bakery style chocolate chip muffins

  • Use good chocolate: Because the chocolate chips are really the star of the show here, the quality of chocolate you use really makes a difference! My favorite chocolate chips to use are these Guittard baking chips, but Ghiradelli semi-sweet chips come in as a close second.

  • Using heavy cream & water: While 1 cup of milk can be used in place of the 1/2 c of heavy cream and 1/2 c of water mixture, I highly recommend using the heavy cream mixture. The added fat content adds so much moisture and richness - which really enhances the overall flavor!

  • Lumpy batter is OK: I can't stress enough how important it is not to over mix your batter. Take care to mix wet and dry ingredients until just combined. The batter may be slightly lumpy at this stage which is OK. Over mixing will result in muffins that are too dense and gummy in texture.
